Criteria of Contestant:
- Contestants must be studying in either a Singapore-registered or Malaysia-registered educational institution or music school. You may also be doing your-full time national service in Singapore or Malaysia.
- Song entry(s) can be either an individual or group composition, you can have more than one (1) composer or lyricist, however you can only nominate ONE official composer and ONE official lyrist for the competition.
- The song entry must be written in Chinese language, and must NOT be officially published by or bound in contract with any recording company. It must also NOT be a winning entry from any other competition(s). The composer and lyricist must NOT be under any contract of recording companies.
- The content of the song entry must NOT be publicised or released before the Grand Final of the competition without permission from the Organiser.
Requirements for the Song Entry:
- Song entry(s) can be of any music genre; however it must not contain any expletives, political agenda or propagate any religious or racial discords.
- The song entry must not exceed six (6) minutes.
- The song entry have to consist of at least 80% Chinese language in terms of lyrics, the remaining 20% can be of other languages.
Details of Competition
- The competition consists of 2 phases, the Preliminaries and Grand Final.
- To participate in the Preliminaries, you may send in your song entry(s) via 2 methods.
i. Manual Participating Procedure
- Contestants have to include the song DEMO and song lyrics in a CD, with a photocopy of student pass, a photo (passport size) of lyricist and composer, filled application form and mail to

- Application form can be downloaded from here or obtained from King Edward VII Hall office at National University of Singapore.
ii. Online Submission
- Contestants may also send in song entry(s) via email to entries@xqrj.com Contestants will need to attach soft copies of song DEMO (mp3 or wma format), song lyrics, scanned copy of student identification, a photo (passport size) of lyricist and composer, and filled application form.
- The song lyrics have to include names of the lyricist and composer.
- The song DEMO must have at least one (1) musical instrument as song accompaniment, or recorded a cappella style.
- All song entries must reach the Organiser by 12th December 2009.
- The results of the Preliminaries will be announced one week after the closing date.
- The Grand Final will be held on 1st January 2010 at the Republic Cultural Centre, Republic Polytechnic. During the Grand Final, there will be NO limit to the types of musical instruments contestants may use. The Organiser will only provide keyboard, acoustic guitar and drum set during Grand Final.
- Contestants are expected to perform live during the Grand Final and a maximum of eight (8) performers will be allowed on stage.

Others
- Recording contracts may be offered by Touch Music Publishing to song entries qualified for the Grand Final; however contestants reserve the copyrights and distribution rights of their song entry(s). The Organiser have the rights to publish all Grand Final song entries in an XQRJ collection album, or for any competition publicity purposes.
- The Organiser will not publish song entries that did not qualify for the Grand Final, in the interest of contestants.
- Contestants will be solely responsible for the audio quality of their song DEMO(s), and the Organiser will not be deemed responsible for any technical fault.
- The Organiser reserve the rights to retain the song DEMO(s).
- All rights reserved by the Organiser.
